Why This Role Matters

In today’s hyper‑competitive retail environment, the ability to turn raw data into actionable insight is a decisive advantage. This Remote Analyst position sits at the heart of careerzynith’s Merchandise Planning Analytics team, supporting more than 100 merchants and 40 planners who drive the performance of the company’s non‑pharmacy front‑end businesses. By delivering precise reporting, deep‑dive analysis, and forward‑looking forecasts for careerzynith’s own‑brand (private label) portfolio, you will directly influence product assortment, pricing strategy, and inventory optimization across thousands of SKUs.

Role Summary

As a Remote Analyst on a six‑month contract (with strong potential for extension or conversion), you will own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of own‑brand data—from historical performance recaps to future demand forecasting. You will work independently while collaborating closely with merchandising, planning, finance, and technology partners. Your analytical rigor, storytelling ability, and mastery of advanced Excel techniques will enable senior leadership to make informed, profit‑maximizing decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own‑Brand Reporting & Recap: Generate daily, weekly, and monthly performance dashboards that summarize sales, sell‑through, profit margins, and inventory health for thousands of private‑label items.
  • Ad‑Hoc Analysis: Respond quickly to business requests by designing custom analyses that uncover trends, identify gaps, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Item‑Level Historical Review: Conduct deep historical analysis at the SKU level, leveraging past sales, promotional lift, and seasonal patterns to build a robust baseline.
  • Future Forecasting: Develop forward‑looking demand forecasts using quantitative techniques, incorporating variables such as promotional calendars, market trends, and supply constraints.
  • Data Synthesis & Storytelling: Transform large, complex data sets into concise executive summaries and visual presentations that clearly articulate insights and recommendations.
  • Tool Development: Build and maintain sophisticated Excel models—including macros, pivot tables, and advanced formulas—to automate repetitive tasks and improve data accuracy.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with merchandising, planning, finance, and IT teams to ensure alignment on data definitions, reporting cadence, and strategic priorities.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline data collection, validation, and reporting processes, championing best practices across the analytics community.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create clear documentation for models, methodologies, and data sources to facilitate knowledge transfer and onboarding of new analysts.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in data analytics, financial analysis, assortment planning, retail merchandising, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in retail merchandising fundamentals, including category management, inventory turnover, and profit‑margin analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (SUM/SUMIFS, VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP, pivot tables, array formulas, macros, and data visualization).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling PowerPoint decks for senior leadership.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and thrive in a fast‑paced, remote work environment.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams and building collaborative relationships across merchandising, planning, and finance.
  • Solid understanding of retail math concepts such as sell‑through, average unit retail (AUR), gross margin, and inventory turnover.

Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have) Qualifications

  • MBA or advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Data Science, Operations Research, Engineering).
  • Hands‑on experience with data‑science tools or programming languages such as SQL, Python, R, or Microsoft Access.
  • Prior exposure to retail or consumer‑goods environments, especially within private‑label or own‑brand categories.
  • Familiarity with statistical forecasting methods, demand‑sensing techniques, or machine‑learning models.
  • Experience building automated reporting solutions using VBA, Power Query, or Power BI.
